Have you ever seen a picture or a photograph and you can not take your eyes off it? Well, this is how I felt when I seen this campaign by Gucci for their 2016 Spring Summer collections. Oh my days … I’m simply speechless …..
Gucci Fashion House have captured my full attention with this. It literally dawned on me that the SS16 campaign is a sequel to the AW15, how wonderful! It appears they are taking public transport around the world, from Los Angeles and now to Berlin ….. pure eccentric genius …. however, I do believe the latest campaign is the better by a long shot.
The Spring Summer 2016 photo’s have tapped into my ‘Napoleon Dyminate’ sense of humour, my passion for mid century architecture, my fixation for retro design and gravitation to mix matching fabric & textures, not to forget great fashion photography, please don’t let it stop! These photos resemble the photos of my parents, which is always an attention & heart grabber. The vintage eccentric direction they have chosen to go down is a fantastic choice for their global image. Alessandro Michele took over the label in 2015 has brought Gucci to the frontline on more than one platform. Tom Ford brought the glitz and the glam, but to Tom’s credit, his clothes were alway retro but from a clean lines and slick perspective. What Alessandro Michele has a achieved is reaching a fresh new clientele, the millennial’s. The cool, trendy, eccentric Instagram generation … and the early 1980’s kids who seen their parents dress in flares, like me.
As an artist, I understand that the photographs are not solely the contribution of Gucci’s Alessandro Michele but the major contribution and artistic direction of photographer Glen Luchford. The photographer makes it happen, his perception and understanding is incredible, hats off to this genius. Check out his short film campaign of the current collection.
“Luxury means that you show the way you dress with eccentricity.” Michele, Gucci.
